Hello Free Time...
Throughout the summer hols you’ve had the kids at home 24/7. It’s likely been a rollercoaster. Once the kids are back at school the place may seem empty. Hang up that holiday hat and reclaim a bit of time and space for yourself. Here’s how…
1. Lunch Date Yourself
A meal. While it’s still hot. It can happen. Take yourself out to lunch and you get to choose what you want. Perch and people-watch or pick up that book you put down months ago. Catch up with yourself.
2. Workspace Anyplace
Reset your working environment for a change. Explore that café you always drive past or a nearby park. Being alone in a public place can focus you. Immerse yourself in your work instead of nappies, noise and neighbours.
3. Float Away
Nothing says “I want to be alone”, like a lightless, soundless tank filled with salt water. Flotation tanks are all the rage right now for wellbeing. Blocking out external stimulation brings the ultimate relaxation. Sensory deprivation helps you drift into a meditative state and rejuvenate your mind and body.
4. Netflix and Chill
Like, actually chill. There’s more to TV than Peppa Pig. Spend an hour a day catching up on your fave series. It’s important to take some time for yourself so that when you pick the little’uns up from school you can enjoy the chaos, as they bounce up full of excitement and news.
5. Pamper Hour
You no longer have to wait to do your hair, face mask and nails when the kids are in bed. Why not spend a morning doing the housework then an afternoon of you time? You’ll feel refreshed for the rest of the day and can get an early night. Win win.
Remember September. Remember You.
September is all about new beginnings. Amid new term excitement and new after school activities, it’s easy to forget yourself but you can start anew too. Try a new hobby, do a course, learn something new and develop new friendships. Meet new mums or mums-to-be. Here’s to new beginnings. Make a list of things you’ve always wanted to try. You’ll look forward to spending time with yourself. Even organising a cupboard can feel rewarding. You heard it here.
